Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions govern use of Familiar Flavours. By creating an account, using the App, saving a recipe, sharing a recipe, publishing a recipe or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who provides the Service

Familiar Flavours is a recipe capture and cooking service operated by Edgeworks Cambridge Limited. Familiar Flavours is the consumer-facing brand. Edgeworks Cambridge Limited is the contracting entity and the organisation responsible for providing the Service.

Company details, including registered office, company number and support contact details, should be completed before publication. If any company details change, the App and website should be updated promptly.

2. Acceptance of these Terms

You must accept these Terms before using core features of the Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not create an account, capture recipes, save recipes, share recipes or publish recipes using Familiar Flavours.

We may ask you to accept updated Terms if we make material changes. Continued use after notice of updated Terms means that you accept the updated Terms.

3. Eligibility and age

You must be legally able to enter into these Terms. You must be at least 13 years old or the minimum age required in your country to use digital services of this type. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian.

Familiar Flavours is intended for general household cooking and recipe preservation. It is not designed for unsupervised use by young children, professional kitchen safety training or regulated food production environments.

4. Account creation and security

You may need an account to save, synchronise, share or publish recipes. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for all activity on your account.

You must provide accurate login information and keep it up to date. We may suspend access if we reasonably believe that an account has been compromised, used fraudulently or used in breach of these Terms.

Your account identity is separated from recipe records. Recipe tables and AI improvement systems are designed to use anonymous internal identifiers rather than your name or email address. Authentication data is used to manage secure access to your account and is not used to improve recipe AI systems.

5. Description of Familiar Flavours

Familiar Flavours helps users preserve and recreate recipes by turning everyday cooking into structured recipes. The Service may use spoken instructions, images, optional notes, recipe edits, cooking interactions and AI-assisted reasoning to identify ingredients, steps and recipe structure.

The Service may include capture tools, recipe editing, private recipe storage, sharing features, publishing features, recipe library features, cooking guidance, account synchronisation and quality-improvement systems.

Features may vary by device, operating system, version, account status, testing group, region and technical availability.

6. AI-generated and AI-assisted content

Familiar Flavours uses AI to assist with speech interpretation, image analysis, recipe structuring, recipe clean-up and quality improvement. AI outputs may be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for a particular person or purpose.

You are responsible for reviewing recipes before relying on them. You must check ingredients, quantities, allergens, cooking temperatures, timings, storage guidance and serving instructions.

AI is an assistant, not a substitute for human judgement. If a recipe appears unsafe, inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable, you should not follow it without correction.

7. Food safety and allergens

Familiar Flavours does not provide professional food safety, nutritional, medical, allergy, dietary or catering advice. Recipes may not include all relevant warnings, temperatures, allergen information or storage guidance.

You are responsible for safe handling, cooking, cooling, storage and reheating of food. You are responsible for identifying allergens and dietary restrictions for anyone who may eat the food.

Do not rely on the Service for decisions about food allergies, intolerances, medical diets, pregnancy, infant feeding, immunocompromised individuals or any other situation where food safety has heightened importance.

8. Ownership of User Content

You retain ownership of the recipes, notes, photographs and other User Content that you create or upload, subject to the licences granted in these Terms.

You are responsible for making sure that you have the right to submit, save, share or publish User Content. If a recipe is copied from another source or belongs to another person, you must have permission before publishing it.

9. Private recipes

Recipes are private by default unless you choose a sharing or publishing option. Private recipes are intended to be visible only to you through your account, subject to necessary technical processing, support, security and legal obligations.

Private recipe content may still be analysed to operate and improve Familiar Flavours, including improving AI accuracy, detecting errors, testing performance and maintaining system quality. This processing is a core part of the Service.

10. Sharing and publishing options

Familiar Flavours may offer different visibility settings, such as private, shared by link, shared with selected people, or public. The exact options may change as the product develops.

Before publishing a recipe publicly, the App should clearly ask you to confirm that you understand the recipe may be seen, saved, recreated or otherwise used by other users within the Service.

If you publish a recipe, you should not include personal information in the recipe title, notes, images or instructions unless you are comfortable with that information being public.

11. Public recipe licence

When you publish a recipe, you grant Edgeworks Cambridge Limited a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, display, distribute, make available, technically adapt, format, moderate, promote and use that Published Recipe as part of Familiar Flavours and related promotional activity.

This licence allows Familiar Flavours to keep public recipes available, display them in the App or on the website, index them, recommend them, promote them, preserve them, technically reformat them and make them available to other users. It also allows the Service to continue functioning if you later close your account, subject to applicable law and privacy commitments.

You continue to own your recipe. You may use it elsewhere. The licence does not transfer ownership of your recipe to Edgeworks Cambridge Limited.

12. AI improvement as a core part of the Service

By using Familiar Flavours, you acknowledge that recipe content, corrections, usage patterns, capture outcomes, cooking interactions, image observations, speech interpretation results, error signals and system performance data may be analysed to improve the Service, including its AI systems.

This improvement activity is not an optional add-on. It is part of how Familiar Flavours works. If you do not want recipe content and interactions to be used for service improvement in this way, you should not use the Service.

AI improvement is designed to operate on recipe data linked to anonymous internal identifiers. Names, email addresses and login credentials are not used to improve the recipe engine or AI systems.

13. Privacy commitment in these Terms

Familiar Flavours is designed so that recipe capture, recipe storage, recipe publication and AI improvement do not require directly identifying personal information such as names or email addresses.

Authentication information is processed separately and used to manage account access, security and support. Recipe tables and AI systems use anonymous internal identifiers instead of user names or email addresses.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use names or email addresses to improve the AI recipe engine. We do not use personal information for unrelated advertising or third-party profiling.

14. User-generated personal information

Although the Service is designed not to request directly identifying information within recipe content, you may choose to include personal information in recipe titles, notes, photos or descriptions. You are responsible for avoiding that unless you are comfortable with the relevant visibility setting.

You must not publish personal information about another person without their permission. This includes names, images, addresses, contact details, medical information, private family details or any other information that could identify someone.

15. Photographs, audio and video handling

The Service may use camera, microphone and image-related features to help capture recipes. Audio, image frames and photographs may be processed to identify cooking actions, ingredients, preparation steps and recipe structure.

The product is designed so that live video used during capture is analysed to support recipe creation and is not stored as a finished recipe asset unless a feature explicitly asks you to save or upload content. Photographs are stored only when you choose to include or upload them as part of a recipe or account feature.

You must ensure that you have permission to capture or upload images or audio that include other people, private spaces, children, or third-party property.

16. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the Service. You must not use Familiar Flavours to upload unlawful, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, misleading, dangerous, infringing, obscene, exploitative or malicious content.

You must not attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, overload, bypass, tamper with, attack, disrupt, probe, copy or exploit the Service except where permitted by law. You must not use automated tools to create accounts or extract recipe content without permission.

You must not publish recipes that encourage unsafe food preparation, poisoning, harmful consumption, deliberate contamination, illegal activity or self-harm.

17. Intellectual property in the Service

The Familiar Flavours name, product design, application, software, models, prompts, workflows, databases, brand assets, visual identity, user interface, documentation and underlying technology are owned by Edgeworks Cambridge Limited or its licensors, except where third-party materials are identified.

You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Service for personal, non-commercial household recipe capture and cooking, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

18. Feedback and suggestions

If you provide feedback, ideas, bug reports, suggestions or feature requests, you grant Edgeworks Cambridge Limited the right to use them without payment or restriction to improve the Service, develop new features and operate Familiar Flavours.

This does not transfer ownership of your private recipe content. It applies to feedback about the product and service.

19. Third-party services and app stores

The Service may rely on third-party providers for authentication, cloud storage, hosting, analytics, crash reporting, app distribution, payment processing and other technical functions. Details should be listed in the Privacy Policy and Appendix C before publication.

If you download Familiar Flavours through an app store, the app store provider may apply additional terms. Those terms are separate from these Terms. Edgeworks Cambridge Limited remains responsible for Familiar Flavours unless stated otherwise.

20. Future paid services

Familiar Flavours may be free during testing, early access or initial launch. We may introduce paid features, subscriptions, usage limits or commercial plans in the future.

Paid features will not apply unless they are shown to you and you agree through the relevant app store, payment provider or billing process. If paid features are introduced, additional billing terms may apply.

21. Service availability and changes

We aim to provide a reliable Service, but we do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free or compatible with every device or operating system.

We may update, suspend, remove, replace or restrict features where necessary for maintenance, security, legal compliance, product improvement or commercial reasons.

22. Support

Support will be provided through the contact routes listed in the App or website. Support availability may vary during testing and early access. We may prioritise security, account access, data protection and payment-related enquiries.

Support staff should not request passwords or unnecessary personal information. Users should not send sensitive personal details, medical information or confidential third-party information through support channels unless necessary for the request.

23. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided as is and as available. We are not liable for losses arising from reliance on AI-generated or AI-assisted recipes, inaccurate recipe content, cooking outcomes, food safety issues, allergic reactions, user-published content, service interruptions or loss of access, except where liability cannot legally be excluded.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

24. Indemnity

You agree to compensate Edgeworks Cambridge Limited for losses, claims, damages, liabilities, costs and expenses arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, your unlawful content, your infringement of third-party rights or your publication of content without permission.

This clause does not reduce any statutory rights that you may have as a consumer.

25. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service, create risk for other users, infringe rights, compromise security, fail to pay for paid services where applicable, or expose Familiar Flavours to legal or operational risk.

You may close your account at any time using the in-app process where available or by contacting support. Account closure is handled in accordance with the Data Deletion Policy.

26. Complaints and disputes

If you have a complaint, contact support first so that we can try to resolve it. If the complaint concerns personal data, you may also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office or another relevant supervisory authority.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights that apply in your country of residence.

27. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will take reasonable steps to notify users of material changes, such as through the App, email, website notice or an updated acceptance screen.

The version date at the top of the document shows when it was last updated. Users should be able to access the current Terms from the App and website.
